Objectives and results of Schüßler-Plan

Since 1958 Schüßler-Plan is a continuously growing engineering company. One key factor of the company’s success is innovation.
Our team is always looking for the best solution for the client, even if we never did this kind of structure before.
Therefore, Schüßler-Plan is engaged in European research projects in order push forward the current limits of the state-of-the-art in structural engineering.

Our engagement during the ELASSTIC project is focused on safety issues.
We are looking for answers regarding the following questions:

  • What are the architectural and structural consequences due to hazard scenarios like earthquake, fire, explosion or plane impact?
  • How can a structure be designed in order to resist an explosion or a plane impact?
  • Is a high-rise building, which was designed for wind loads, able to resist an earthquake too?
  • Is the use of more sophisticated design methods reasonable regarding the scenarios earthquake or fire?

Some of these questions can already be answered:
High-rise buildings which are properly designed for wind loads are often able to resist a moderate earthquake as well.

The push-over analysis for structures in earthquake regions is a useful sophisticated analysis method because the performance of the structure can be modelled very realistically. Therefore, the use of this method is recommendable for new structures in regions with severe earthquake loads or existing structures.
